Understanding Rainbows

Our Understanding Understanding project focused on people’s misconceptions of rainbows.  At an early age, students are taught about the formation of rainbows, with the colors in a ROY-G-BIV order.  Despite the instruction, it was decided that many people have misconceptions of color order, as well as how a rainbow develops.  As a group, we interviewed eight adults in order to learn how they understand rainbows.  We paid specific attention to the way they drew rainbows, as well as the placement of sun, rain, and clouds during an actual rainbow.
